SOLUTIONS
Reproduction at industrial standard.
Kinsect raises the nursery — the reproduction of eggs and neonate larvae — to a higher level of industrialisation: standardised, consistent and running 24/7. Proprietary hardware and AI make output predictable and reduce operational and biological risk.

WHY THE NURSERY MATTERS
The nursery is the industry's bottleneck.
Reproduction is the most technical and delicate stage of the BSF chain. Producing neonate larvae at constant quality, batch after batch, is what decides the cost, predictability and scalability of everything downstream.
Kinsect brings a superior, standardised technology that makes the nursery predictable and industrial-grade so the whole chain can scale with confidence.

ONE INTEGRATED STACK
Hardware, AI and larval stabilisation
Three layers designed to work as one system not three separate machines bolted together.
HARDWARE
Automated nursery
Modular breeding cages, climate room and robotic stations handle the delicate, time-consuming nursery tasks with no human-insect contact.
HARDWARE
K-Brain
A digital entomologist: computer vision and machine learning stabilise the biology in real time and predict production.
HARDWARE
TSL suspension
Neonate larvae kept viable for 14 days, turning a perishable output into a stable, on-demand supply.
HOW THE AUTOMATED NURSERY WORKS
Every nursery task, automated
Closed breeding modules live in a climate-controlled room and move automatically to robotic stations that do the work.
Climate-controlled room
Modules are held at the ideal temperature and humidity for BSF adults and moved on conveyors with gentle acceleration ramps that don't disturb the colony.
Robotic stations
Robotic arms swap egg collectors, load and remove pupae trays, add water and feed, measure parameters and clean modules automatically.
Contamination-free egg collection
Collectors are extracted and replaced without a single fly escaping and without human-insect contact the key to consistent, clean output.
High-density design & matched light
Up to 3× the fly density of conventional systems, under a dedicated LED spectrum (4000K white + 365nm UV-A) tuned to the BSF's visual range.
K-BRAIN · THE DIGITAL ENTOMOLOGIST
Adaptive, predictive control not just monitoring.
Computer vision and machine-learning algorithms monitor every cage in real time. K-Brain compares each colony against its own history and reference values, so operators can verify and optimise production continuously.
By stabilising the biology in real time, it removes biological risk and human error, and flags production drops before they cost a cycle turning biology into a predictable, measurable process.

PROVEN, NOT THEORETICAL
Validated in real facilities
Measured, not estimated
The technology runs on measured production data, refined at our 700 m² facility in Reggio Emilia and scaled at our demonstrator plant in Rovereto (Polo Meccatronica).
Every performance figure comes from real batches, not lab estimates the foundation of a system built to industrial standard.
REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
Biology, stabilised
BSF rearing and the use of live larvae for feed are governed by Reg. (EC) 1069/2009 and Reg. (EU) 142/2011. Transport of live BSF larvae for the feeding of farmed animals (fish, poultry, swine) is enabled by the Italian Ministry of Health circular of 2023. Kinsect operates fully within this framework.
